WEAVER, WARD
Possible suspect, refer file
<STOY>
____________________________________________
The following document was obtained from a manila folder titled "Poss. Suspect File" sent to the filmmakers during the making of Cabin 28: The Keddie Murders Part II.
6-12-84 approx 0900 hr, I received a phone call from Cpt. Leroy Wood of the BCSO. He advised than an informant told him who committed the Keddie homicides. He explained that the informant called just before he called me. The informant says that he knows the ex-wife of Ward F. Weaver. He is currently in the Kern Co. Jail on 187 charge. The ex-wife told the informant that her ex-husband committed the Keddie murders. The only other information Cpt. Wood had was that the ex-wife is very afraid of her ex-husband and she will not come forward this time out of fear.
In checking on the ex-husband's name in the case file I found a supplemental report where he was considered as a possible suspect during the original investigation.
6-22-84, I contacted Bill Opferman of DOJ BOCCI unit in Sacramento. Opferman has information on W.F.W. and has followed his criminal history. He told me that the suspect's whereabouts on April 11/12 - 1981 are unknown but that he was in Southern California on the 3rd of April and in Reno NV on the 14th of April, 1981. I obtained a brief description from Opferman on the suspect's M.O. in two homicide/kidnap cases and notice some similarities with the Keddie case. I will contact Opferman in person next week and obtains copies of the information.
6-21-84, Sgt. Young stopped by the BCSO on the way back from Feather Falls and talked with Capt. Wood. He obtained a photo of the suspect and a copy of the BCSO coroner report concerning [name omitted], who was the girl the suspect picked up in Kern Co. and later killed in Butte County.

From the podcast, "Many people know about the horrible murders of Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis committed by Ward Weaver III. But not many people know that Ward Weaver’s father, Ward Weaver Jr., was a serial killer. No one knows exactly how many people he murdered while driving his semi-truck around northern California. Police estimate he may be responsible for as many as 26 unsolved homicide cases.". crimesandconsequences.com/ward-weaver-jr/.

"During Weaver’s trial, Shumaker recalled, the defense attorney made an unsettling proposal: If prosecutors would agree not to seek the death penalty, Weaver “could clear up a lot of other cases.” The offer was turned down. Eighteen years later, Shumaker still wonders. The California Department of Justice once checked Weaver’s truck logs against unsolved homicides around the state, he said. They came up with 26 matches -- meaning that Weaver had been in the area when a killing occurred.". www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2003-jun-28-sci-weaver28-story.html?_amp=true

One interesting thing about Ward Weaver as a suspect:
There was the anonymous 911 call from a man stating Ward Weaver's wife claimed he was responsible for the Keddie Murders but she was too scared of him to come forward.
That anonymous call was received a week or two before the anonymous 911 call asking if Tina had been looked into for remains found at Camp 18.
I wonder if LE compared the voices on the audio tapes of those two anonymous calls? It's too bad they didn't request the caller come forward before allowing him to be called a suspect.

Interesting pod cast on him. Extremely difficult to find information on his previous crimes and can’t find anything on his “buddy Gerald/Jerold (?) Daniels” who was also a perp ( and convicted) for a crime they committed together in 1981. There’s a photo of Weaver that was taken in the 80’s. Compare it to the “psychic” composite in the Keddie files….. militarymurderpodcast.com/episode-26-possible-serial-killer-ward-weaver-jr/

Great post akat! I tried to find Gerald Daniels also, I'd need "publisher extra" to read the article but, it looks to me they may have been part of a large marijuana grow operation that was busted. I might just go digging later

Sno, did you compare the pics?
That whole family is a hot mess. I have never believed in “passing the gene” down. But I may need to chew on that after reading about the whole family. Sheesh!

OOOh Do I have an article for you then! From the Los Angeles Times : www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2003-jun-28-sci-weaver28-story.html?_amp=trueIntro of article "Behavior May Leave a Mark on Genes BY ROBERT LEE HOTZ AND JOHN JOHNSON JUNE 28, 2003 12 AM PT TIMES STAFF WRITERS OREGON CITY, Ore. — There were two missing schoolgirls and too many coincidences. After police found two corpses in Ward Weaver’s backyard, near the apartment building where Miranda Gaddis, 13, and Ashley Pond, 12, had lived, even case-hardened homicide detectives were queasy. Had they not seen this once before? For there are two Ward Weavers. One lives on death row in San Quentin. The other is his son. The father -- Ward Weaver Jr. -- has spent 18 years awaiting execution for the 1981 murder of a young woman and her fiance, whose car broke down near Tehachapi. He buried her under a concrete slab in his backyard." Edit to add: I do believe their is scientific evidence that a "violence gene", however it's only been observed in a very small group of a very specific population. Looking at the photo I thought "too old" for a crime like this. But (and I'm not excusing his actions, he knew right from wrong) I do believe he suffered from some form of mental illness, AND he very brashly beat to death Robert Radford right on the side of the road before absconding with his fiancée Barbra Lavoy.

Very fascinating read Sno! I should clarify, I didn’t mean it’s not possible just rare.
Going totally off subject here, but I am a WW2/Holocaust buff. I have probably looked into the atrocities of the Holocaust more than any other crime. I saw a couple of documentaries and did a bit of research into the families of the SS after seeing them. Most of the family members of the ones that perpetrated the Holocaust have not only damned their family members involved, some have changed their last names, some of them have sterilized themselves so they can’t ever pass on the “evil gene.” Most of them try to live quiet lives, but there are a few that speak out against what their family members did.
Going back to the Weaver family, Francis Weaver is also in prison for murder. Mallory Weaver also can’t seem to keep herself out of trouble either. Whole family has something strange going on for sure.

Suspected serial killer ward francis weaver Jr. …..Is really hard to find information on! His degenerate son ward weaver III murders of Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis seem to have pushed his father out of the “lime light”. ward weaver III’s stepson, francis weaver, was also convicted of murder. This was a nightmare of a family, but I’m mainly interested in weaver jr at the moment. He was looked into twice during the Keddie murder (my main case of interest) investigation. I don’t know why he caught law enforcements attention during the initial stages, or when exactly. But when he was first looked at, officers were interested in his sons (killer weaver III) pellet gun. As the same type may have been used during the Keddie murders. What I have found seems pretty shocking. In 2 confirmed instances of violent crime, ward jr had a partner. The first was the kidnap and rape of a 16 year old girl. ward weaver jr (30) and a man named earl maccapes (23) were arrested in Humboldt County for forcing this girl into a truck, and driving her to Fernbridge to rape her. The second instance I found is truly bizarre. In April of 1981 ward befriended a young couple on the run and offered to let them stay with his family. David Galbraith, 18 years old, and Michelle D., 15 years old, later accepted a ride to Ventura California, ward told David he could help him find work. When they arrived in Ventura, defendant and Galbraith unloaded the truck, and then they met someone named Jerry, who defendant said would take Galbraith somewhere where he could get a job. Defendant went on a short delivery run with Michelle D.; they all agreed to meet in a few hours. Before they left, Galbraith saw defendant give Jerry a gun. After Jerry and Galbraith had been driving about an hour, Jerry stopped the car and called Galbraith to come look at some deer on the side of the road. Jerry then shot Galbraith in the back of the head. After Galbraith fell, Jerry shot him again in the back of the head and then in the face. Jerry kicked him over an embankment and left, without saying anything. Galbraith was conscious throughout the attack and managed to crawl back to the roadway, where he was found by a forest ranger. Weaver v. Chappell, 1:02-cv-05583-AWI-SAB, 18-19 (E.D. Cal. Sep. 19, 2021) Gerald Daniels is a mystery to me. He just randomly took a gun from ward to shoot some stranger, so that ward could rape a 15 year old girl? Ward weaver jr had at least one more partner in crime that I’ve found little about, and seems to have involved drugs or a grow operation. During ward weaver jr’s trial, he offered to confess to many more murders, if the death penalaty were taken off the table. The prosecutor declined. And wards death sentence has since been commuted. What a waste, if he could have brought closure to other families. Authorities who checked his trucking logs believe he could be responsible for as many as 26 murders across several states. To my knowledge, no one has been able to figure out which murders he’s suspected of. Dude sure had a talent for partnering up with like minded sickos with no aversion to violence. It's strange and extremely rare when killers partner up to begin with. There's only a few who find their once in a lifetime hellish soulmate. And most killers just prefer to work alone. Ward found at least 2 hellish soulmates in his life.

Dang! It was both father and son Weaver who were looked at! The younger, would have been about 18y.o. at the time. Not for sure, but I think the elder Weaver was under 40 then?
