In 1981, the Feather River Bulletin was published once a week on Wednesdays. Newspapers in Sacramento and San Francisco had two editions daily and were the first to report on the crime.

The article states that Sheriff Thomas mentioned that the murders could be of a copy-cat nature, but wouldn’t say exactly which crimes they compared to, just that the similar cases were in Northern California in the recent past. He was probably thinking of the crimes committed by Randy Woodfield, the I-5 Killer (not be confused with the I-5 Strangler, Roger Reece Kibbe) series which included the 3 Feb 1981 rape/murder of a mother and daughter in Mountain Gate, near Redding, Shasta County; the I-5 Killer, Randall Woodfield was arrested 7 Mar 1981 by Salem Police Department in Oregon. murderpedia.org/male.W/w/woodfield-randall.htm

In the pons list, their are a few law agencies that were contacted or contacted Plumas because of similarities. Two in Oregon, one being in Springfield Oregon. There were several I tried to track down with little success. Kmik, Karis, and Hope weren't lying about Newspapers.com being such a great resource, lol I feel blind without my subscription now! I'll def be renewing in the near future!
