I’m just wondering if Johnny was actually sleeping in the basement at the time given The third bed in the boys room Given there was that third bed in the boys room could Johnny have been moved to the boys room I can’t imagine Greg and Rick had friends over that often that Sue would need to buy an extra bed maybe one of the younger boys took Johnny’s bed that night and Johnny and Dana were going to sleep in the lounge

I completely agree Mew. Yes, Sheila said in the documentary that Johnny got a bedroom downstairs but everything else says otherwise. The basement was unfinished with no heat. It was cold outside. The cot was in the boys room for a reason & Johnny sleeping there makes the most sense. Perhaps he started off sleeping down there & did when it was warm out. But freezing all night is no fun when there was somewhere else he could sleep.
Even if he did sleep down there sometimes, that night he & Dana were most likely planning on sleeping upstairs. Where would Dana have slept down there, on the hard ground? Johnny as well. They had the living room to themselves with the tv vs a cold empty basement. They came in through the front door, were still fully dressed & hadn't hit the kitchen despite not eating for hours. It doesn't appear they were ever in the basement that night. And that's is why no photos were taken of the basement, there was nothing of evidentiary value there.

Here is a section of Rick's 4-13-81 interview:
Doesn't sound as if there was a bed or any other obvious signs of a bedroom being down there for Crimm to ask what room he was talking about down there.

Justin had said in his dream Dana was drunk. Very suspicious if Sheila said that early in the investigation. Could Dana have been drunk that night when he returned to Keddie and the alcohol was not detected in his system at autopsy? As for the cot, I remember hearing in a podcast that Johnny slept on the cot in the screened porch off of the kitchen. I've yet to locate a report mentioning that. If the cot was in the screened porch, I could see Sue bringing it into the boys room for Justin to sleep on. According to the Feather River Bulletin, the temperature for April 11 was Lo 18 and High 53, April 12 was Lo 18 and High 63. With it so cold at night maybe the boys were planning to sleep in their clothes? Check out this chart of Quincy weather for the night of April 11-12. I've never heard that about Johnny sleeping on the screened porch either. I wonder where they got that from. That porch would have been colder than the basement.
Sheila saying that stood out to me as well. And I wondered the same thing, did Justin hear that from Sheila or did Sheila hear it from Justin? Or something else, could there be some truth to it?
I think I'm going to copy some of this over to the toxicology thread for us to add to.
The thing with the toxicology results is the report has never been released. The newspaper reported no drugs or alcohol were detected in any of the victims. But we know LE hold things back, so that's not conclusive. A later FRB article said "despite recently stating no drugs or alcohol were present during autopsy, Doug Thomas now says one of the victims was known to associate with drugs." (Paraphrasing, I will grab the actual quote)
I find it odd the toxicology reports were never published. How many times were we told on the old forums "there were no drugs or alcohol". Josh released all the other autopsy reports but not the tox screens (they are part of the official autopsy record). They very well may have been negative but if no one's ever seen them... No reason to not post them if they were negative. And on keddie28, Dmac said they were not in the files Gamberg gave him. The report stating the results were in was there & to "see attached", but the attachment/results were missing.
