I checked out the autopsy report on Dana and it only says the arms were checked for needle marks however other common injection sites are
Abdomen. The abdomen is a common site for insulin injections that many people with diabetes choose. Upper Arms. The upper arm is another possible site for insulin injection. Thighs. The thigh is a simple area for self-injection. Lower back, hips, or buttocks.
it seems weird to me that an ME wouldn’t have thought to check
also speaking of the diabetic kit what is everyone’s thoughts on this? Do you think it was misplaced evidence, left behind at Kathy Beckley’s place, stolen or another scenario

Is it possible the ME was checking his arms for IV drug use? **I don't think Dana was an IV drug user** It is strange that was the only site he checked, the arms seem the least likely place a person would administer their DM injections. Would the ME have known Dana was a diabetic? I believe in one of Sheila's interviews she said he injected into his stomach, fwiw.
In regards to his missing kit, I've always leaned towards it being stolen. Any known IV drug users associated with the case? Dan Dorris said Dana was typically very good with taking care of his Diabetes & only had one episode while living there. Doesn't sound like he would just forget it somewhere, but it's still possible.
Although, if it was left at Beckleys apartment or in Cruzita's car, it's not like they would have come forward with that information either! Another 35 year secret impacting the investigation!!
What are your thoughts??

What are your thoughts?? all I found about his stomach in the autopsy report was The abdomen is virtually flat it doesn’t mention any needle marks it’s usually the ME’s job to know about the victims medical history to give an accurate description of cause of death and time of death so my guess they had to have known if they didn’t then that’s another flaw in the case you’re absolutely right it’s likely Buckley or Cruzita tossed it if it was still in their possession

Good catch about there not being any notations in the ME report about diabetic injection sites on Dana. I had never thought about that.
Do we know what his diabetic kit consisted of? Since it carried needles and probably a glass vial, it must have been a case made of a hard material. Would he have been able to slip this in a pant's pocket and carry it all the time?
I doubt that he would have forgotten the kit anywhere. Maybe there was another stop along the way where Dana injected himself and for whatever reason, the kit was left behind. I agree with Hope, I think one of the killers stole it from him. Maybe that's a clue to the type of killers we're looking for - intravenous drug users.

Tough subject to talk about, poor cat. This is from the Case Study for Criminal Psychology report written in 1993:
If the statement about the cat is true it shows Dana did carry his insulin with him. It should have been found in cabin 28 when the murders were discovered.
I tend to believe the story is true. It came from somewhere and made it's way into case files.
The likeliest explanation for the kit to be missing imo is whoever committed the murders took the kit. Someone who had use for it, an IV drug user.
