2016-03-22 Gamberg Interview with Justin
This was posted on Keddie28 and was transcribed by Dmac. The interview lasted 50 minutes and was filmed. It was more of a summary, paraphrased and not verbatim. I edited the original post, keeping only what pertained to the interview itself.
Background: Justin had apparently read the first news article with Gamberg & Hagwood. The Chester Progressive/Plumas News published the article on March 16, 2016. This was the article in which Hagwood & Gamberg praised the internet forums dedicated to the Keddie Murders (keddie28). Gamberg is quoted as saying "Thanks to information from the Internet chat rooms, he has identified the location of six "persons of interest" connected to this case." This interview with Justin took place prior to the discovery of the hammer in the pond.
Gamberg: Begins by saying the case was muffed, but it's solvable with simple help.
Justin: 'I don't even know what we can do. All I can suggest is maybe that one guy.' He doesn't think he has time in his schedule to 'run down and see him' because he's so busy trying to get his business off the ground the right way, '....investors flying at me in so many directions right now...', all the meetings he must hit (County Ag Dept, the Sheriff, Board of Supervisors, etc.)
'What's going to happen to my brain, emotionally and psychologically?' 'My mind has put this to rest so many years ago'
Gamberg: Does a 'truth can set you free' pitch. He talks of rumors that kids were involved, but put that to rest, because 'it's not a crime'
Justin: 'That's not even a fear of mine, to be honest. I don't have fear that something may come out that I were directly or indirectly involved in some sort of heinous activity'. Then he switches back to the hypnotist (Leidecker): 'when that guy put me under, he was channeling Marty through me, and it was the most fucking craziest thing I've experienced in my life' and he was afraid of it happening again. 'A priest could say I was possessed by Marty's demon!' He's worried that 'if you put me under, all of a sudden Marty's coming out of me again'
Gamberg had just spoken with Marty's kid who was to supply DNA. The case was screwed up from the beginning.
Justin only remembers Doug Thomas of all the cops he dealt with, because he spent so much time with him. To him, it seems like a dream of an unfortunate happening that didn't seem real - especially as the years have passed.
Gamberg: Wants to present what he knows to Justin and Justin can correct him, or whatever. Gamberg believes others were involved and Justin may have saw them that night. The direction the investigation is taking is Marty and Bo and others. Others helped in the removal of Tina, alive or dead. Justin's hypnotist has offered to come up and help. Also, when Gamberg goes through the case with him, some things may jog his memory. And with Justin having two kids of his own, Gamberg hopes Justin would what the horrors he went through mean and look inward to see why he must step up now.
Gamberg: Others on the cusp of the case (believed involved): Tony G., Dee L., all involved with a group of drug traffickers. At the time of the interview, Gamberg floated the old belief that the motive was Sue's counseling Look to hit the bricks. Then he goes over the "Love Confession" letter and the "four people's lives" lines and meaning.
Justin: Says it was just a regular night, they all sat around watching TV, 'and ate popcorn, whatever'. No visitors, no memory of Johnny & Dana coming home.
Gamberg: Said he believes Justin got up and saw what happened. That had to be true, even from what he said during the last hypno-session. Gamberg believes Justin came out and witnessed it. Even Marry said in a statement that Justin had seen what happened. Gamberg says Justin can bring this to a close because he saw what happened.
Justin: Asks 'if I was a witness, might there be some proof that I was actually in the murder scene: smaller footprints, blood on his sh...socks, bare feet,' etc.
Gamberg: Informs Justin of with the DNA hit on the tape. . And, as for the footprints, Gamberg believes there was a coverup in the case, Justin's shoes for instance, were taken into evidence and then disappeared. Gamberg isn't saying Justin didn't do anything wrong, is interrupted by Justin.
Justin: 'If there's physical evidence putting me in the crime scene then who's to say what I did or didn't do. This is pretty personally devastating, Mike, I'll be honest.'
Gamberg: Trying to get him back on track, saying that like the hypno session, this DNA hit proves he was in the crime scene, involved, a witness. Gamberg talks of seeing him defeat himself at almost every turn, repeating that when he coached him in wrestling, he had the physical ability and was a thinker in matches, but he'd eventually fail himself. He was a star wrestler but for letting himself fail. Gamberg then related that Keddie was kind of the same way, in that instead of confronting the challenge and getting past it, he's chosen to lock it up and say 'fuck it, I don't want to think about it'.
Gamberg goes into intricate detail of how the 187s changed all of Keddie and Plumas, how nobody'd locked their doors until then, etc. And that his investigation didn't hold much hope in arrests or prison terms because the case had been so mishandled already, but that arrests could and should have been made shortly after the murders. Marty and Bo were already both dead, so the point of his investigation was to bring resolution to the case.
Justin: Said he doesn't see how it's any closure whatsoever, and, if anything, it's more of 'a death sentence for me than'. He iterates how worried he is that going over what he remembers would further scar him emotionally/mentally.
Justin then focuses on his DNA again, saying "I wasn't expecting to hear my DNA was found, but I can see how it was because I was running around the house, ya know?' 'Now you're saying that my DNA was on something used to bind a victim, that takes it to another level!' He then draws an analogy of being involved in something 'heinous', an injury, when he was 2-3 years old and recalling it well, but can't remember Keddie at all, and we're 'repressed memories' to come out, people would say he knew it along and had been lying.
Gamberg: Asks how many times Doug Thomas hypnotized him, '4?, 5?, 6?, 7?'
Justin: Doesn't remember, doesn't know if they were real, doesn't know if he was in a trance and just searching for answers, but the only that the only hypno guy he trusted was 'the Santa Claus guy's (Leidecker), and even the results were 'pretty darn scary'. Justin said 'Is it worth it to me to open up this can of worms? What do I get out of it besides helping the public?'. He then really flares up with, 'I'm ready to break down, just over THIS!"
Gamberg: Talks about many struggles both Justin and he had survived, and how dealing with them as been both painful and helpful - rather than just trying to ignore what happened.
Justin: Again said how draining it is for him to talk about Keddie, how he 'expected there was an outside chance there would be some sort of my evidence on-site' but it was something he has the tendency to 'push back or deny'.
Gamberg: Reminds Justin it was he who had called Gamberg wanting to talk, and why doesn't he want to now? Justin said he'd called more about the article, and wanted to mention he'd read the article and that he cared 'and all that stuff'.
Justin: Tells a story of when he lived in Seattle and was 'trying his best to fix this thing, if at all possible' 'and that cocksucker, Josh H, came up there and basically stole all my rights to handling this investigation', that Josh 'stole them from me and published his book', that people showed up at his doorstep as a result. He says that, because of his enthusiasm and wanting to work with Sheila to solve it, they'd fucked him. Justin says he's contacted Josh to ask him to stop. And, far worse, he's seen Sheila make money off the death of her family.
Gamberg: Iterated Josh is a POS and, in fact, had stole things related to the case while visiting PCSO, and had gotten just some of it back from Dmac. He goes on to tell how keddie28 had burst the bubble of the Mike D. BS doppelganger alibi, and that person described was Tony G., and how they showed his story of helping Sue and the kids father wood was BS, 28 had no wood stove, and they even put up the side-by-side photos comparing Tony to Avery Schreiber (which is how Mike described his 'suspect').
Gamberg: Brought up the possibility that Marilyn was involved, and Justin's silence was meant to protect her, 'which is a hard possibility, and they all had the same lies'. That Marilyn even said many of the things in the alibi were lies. 'Is any of this making sense?'
Justin: 'M-hmm'. Again spells out he's worried about what kind of mental health impact his helping Gamberg might have on himself, and people saying 'well why wasn't this solved back then?'
Gamberg: 'I can tell you exactly why' and talks about the corruption, how he'd been fired a couple weeks before the 187s and when he finally got his job back, he was told if he touched the case he'd be fired again.
