Therapist's 1981 office notes reveal no documentation of a confession by Marty....
There is so much information to go over regarding the therapist confession. This confession is rarely discussed in detail and is typically presented as "Marty confessed to his therapist and it was covered up." There is a lot of information the public is not made aware of, including multiple discrepancies and inconsistencies in the Therapist's statements.
Since there are so many, I thought it may be best to break things up over several posts. Everyone is aware of what the Therapist stated in the documentary and that is what has been repeated in recent years, through forum posts, newspaper articles and media appearances.
Yet, what the Therapist claimed in the documentary does not corroborate what is documented in the available records from 1981. His statements are not only inconsistent with LE reports from the time, but are also inconsistent with the Therapist's own notes taken during his sessions with Marty.
The most significant being…..the Therapist's 1981 office notes included no documentation of a confession by Martin Smartt. Zero, no mention of a confession whatsoever. When questioned why there was no documentation, his story of how the confession occurred changed.
Here is what the Therapist said in the documentary:
According to Gamberg's files, Marty's VA records were obtained in February 2014. Gamberg spoke with the Therapist via telephone in March or August 2015 (conflicting dates based on information provided by Dmac). An in-person meeting was discussed at this time. Unsure when this meeting occurred, but in May 2016, Dmac had this to say:
Pretty shocking, right? It is considering how much weight is put on this "confession" and the way it is presented to the public. But not at all shocking when a slightly deeper look is taken, it is just one of many, many inconsistencies.
According to his documentary interview, the Therapist claimed the confession occurred during a scheduled counseling appointment, the second to last appointment with Marty. Yet, when questioned in 2015/2016, he claimed it did not occur during a scheduled appointment & therefore he decided not to make it part of the official record. Really? That's a big discrepancy. And regardless of whether it was made during a scheduled appointment or not, you would think something so significant would have been documented. In the medical field, every encounter with a patient is documented, whether scheduled or not, including phone conversations or messages. So, the fact the therapist made absolutely no mention of a supposed confession to an unsolved murder that included a missing 12 year old girl at the time, is a major red flag.
What we are left with are multiple conflicting reports of how the supposed confession occurred. Everyone is made to believe Marty confessed during an appointment with his Therapist. That his therapist immediately called and reported this confession, reports were falsified and he was misled into believing Marty had been arrested. There is so much misinformation in that narrative, which we will get to. But for now:
With all these inconsistencies, why is this "confession" portrayed as proof of guilt and proof of a cover-up? Why haven't any of the files, interviews and statements regarding the "confession" been released?
The "therapist confession" is one of the most widely known and most often repeated claims in regards to this case, yet there has been no official documentation released regarding it. The answer is quite obvious, the public has been misled and the claim has been given more veracity than it deserves. From the information that has been released, it appears the actual events align with what the 1981 case files state, versus what the therapist claimed on camera, to a documentary crew in 2010.
Here is a portion of a 2020 post Dmac made regarding the VA records. This same information provided here in his "My Trip to Keddie 2020" thread was also provided in his "transcription" of Gamberg's official case files. Note the last line of the post:
In regards to the records obtained, Dmac states: "<There are none attached, or in the documents I've seen>". At the time of his post, in 2020, it appears the significance of these discrepancies was realized. Hence his claim no records were attached. It is contradicted by his 2016 post on the subject:
In addition, the following statement concerning information found within Marty's records has been posted about several times:
That's at least two mentions of information obtained from the Therapist's 1981 office notes on Marty, proving he is aware of what those records contained (and did not contain). Also FWIW, the Therapist was not a MD. If he did in fact scrawl "sociopath" over Marty's ID sheet, it is not an official diagnosis. Not saying it's not true, who knows, but it is meaningless. As a therapist, he did not possess the credentials to diagnose patients, only MDs are able to do so.
Finally, it appears even Dmac has concerns regarding the validity of the Therapist's confession claim.
It's important to remember Dmac has seen a lot more than any of us have. He is in possession of all files & interviews pertaining to the therapist. I'm surprised such a statement slipped through, but it shows there is much more to the "therapist confession" than what we are led to believe.
It also reinforces the fact that information is being withheld, information that does not substantiate the story. Information and inconsistencies that will cause people to question things. There is a reason not one of the Therapist's statements from 1981, 2010 or 2015/2016 have ever been released.
And for transparency sake, here is the entire post of Dmac's, revealing the Therapist's records contained no documentation of a confession by Marty. This screenshot was taken from a post Dmac made on Meankitty's forum. For those who have access, his original post was made to keddie28 on May 25, 2016 in the thread titled "The Therapist, the Confession".

"The agency I work for would have notes, but they would be confidential and I would not, I too would not have access to them because I’ve been gone for so long. I’m sorry that I can’t give you more, but, but I hope in some way this helps you".

My May 25 post concerning how Marty's Therapist interacted with Crimely and PCSO:
…
….
MT was furious to hear the arrest never took place, and that Crimely filed yet another false report. He stated that Loon only attended the first couple sessions (before the murders happened) and did not want to further participate. He was asked why Marty's confession was not in the records, and he said he'd deliberated over it but concluded that, as Marty had walked in off the street without an appointment, and only spoke briefly with MT, he decided it shouldn't go in the VA records- but he could still call and report it.

That his therapist immediately called and reported this confession, reports were falsified and he was misled into believing Marty had been arrested. There is so much misinformation in that narrative, which we will get to. But for now:
- 1981 reports - No documentation in Marty's office notes regarding a confession. No LE statement/interview from the therapist confirming Marty confessed. No documentation that the therapist ever contacted LE with the information. Reports which do state it was the therapist's neighbor, Dr Cheezman who actually contacted LE. That the therapist did not want him to do so. According to reports, it was LE who then followed the lead and reached out to the Therapist, not vice versa as claimed by the therapist. The report regarding this encounter has never been released (why??), but apparently the therapist denied the first hand confession, it was determined it was a misunderstanding, hearsay from a phone conversation with Marilyn. It has previously been stated the therapist found that claim ridiculous & stated Marilyn had no part in Marty's therapy sessions, had never met her - that also appears to be untrue. In his above explanation, the therapist again changed his story, now stating Marilyn did attend some of the initial appointments. At some point she decided to no longer participate. (Probably after she left Marty). It is also worth noting, after receiving the "confession" information, whether hearsay or not, LE took the tip seriously and a second search of cabin 26 was conducted.
- 2010 documentary interview - the Therapist appears to have a total recall of events 25 years ago. He claims the confession occurred in person, during a scheduled, in person appointment. The Therapist called LE that afternoon & informed them of the confession. After a visit from the DOJ, he was later personally thanked for his information and had been under the impression, for 25 years, that Marty had been arrested. He was shocked to learn from Josh the murders were still unsolved (lots to talk about there as well).
- 2010 interview with Bill Elliott & Rod DeCrona - unknown what was said, this interview has never been released despite Dmac having the audio recording in his possession. Why has it never been released?? If the Therapist's statements are consistent it should be a slam dunk, right? If everything matched up, it would be supporting evidence in favor of the prevailing theory. It would have been one of the first items released after Gamberg handed over all those case files to Dmac. Yet, it has never been released and that is because there are too many inconsistencies, which we will get to later.
- 2015/2016 interview(s) with Mike Gamberg. These have also never been released. The outpatient VA records were obtained in 2014 and there is no documentation of a confession in Marty's file/office notes. Therapist changes his story & states the confession occurred outside of a scheduled appointment. Which is why he didn't document it. Despite previous claims, he now states Marilyn had been present for some of Marty's appointments. Why haven't these interviews ever been released either?
With all these inconsistencies, why is this "confession" portrayed as proof of guilt and proof of a cover-up? Why haven't any of the files, interviews and statements regarding the "confession" been released?

Oct 28, Mike again contacted VA Reno, this time about obtaining any records related to Bo/Marty. Three days later, a court order was requested to permit their assistance.
Nov 6 PC DA recd his report to support a court order for VA documents.
30 Dec DA's office requests further info to further probable cause for document release from VA re: Bo/Marty. A two-page recap of the murders, much revolving around the confession by Marty to his counselor and subsequent coverup by Crimely/PCSO, is submitted.
140108, a subpoena for said VA records is received. Mike delivers it personally the next day, in Reno.
140223 Mike receives VA records for Marty- see attachments <There are none attached, or in the documents I've seen>

We have now identified original 1981 documents on hand of Marty's confession-era VA stuff. Most comical and obvious, "sociopath" is scrawled over Martin Smartt's ID sheet. S-O-C-O-P-A-T-H. Dead ringer?

Back to topicality: I've thought for a long while that the removal of Tina may be due to the stressors related to inflicting the same damage to Tina's corpse as they had inflicted upon the others.
Marty's counselor said Marty only showed emotion when talking Tina, even after admitting she was 'collateral damage'. Reminds me that Sheila arranged this and should have been there for her own pity party murder. But I've seen enough documents to call into question the counselor's account, and I've established a folder to catch all mentions of the VA and Reno and all the horseshit about Sunday (car parts/drugs/VA. Marty has so many nails in his coffin, I'd hate for this early confession to be questionable. It's clearly not, from what I've read so far, but the truth is so rarely happy. I've enough to call the whole an unquestioned charade of it's own making.
Taking that confession out of the equation, before the murders, Marty's VA eval was SOCIPATH. B4 the murders, he was clearly labelled a sociopath. Chalk that up to VA bullshit? I would, given evidence of the likelihood. I've seen the VA pull anything they can to keep fairy tales their game plan. But they labelled Marty a sociopath two weeks before he killed four.
I have no trust with the VA, much less the CIA, FBI, DOJ, or CoC (yer local Chamber of Commerce), in descending order of outright crimes they've committed. You think I pin this on one confession the DOJ clearly lied about, or is it the gestalt?
