Mike Gamberg's Report, 2013-2015
Postby dmac » Mon Jun 21, 2021 5:39 pm
21 June 21-- Let's start with Mike Gamberg's reports I put in a folder simply titled '2013'. It's 150 pages, including three pages of names of people contacted in the reports and four pages of Sue's school rosters. OK, I've already done almost 10% of this folder.
"In late June, at the request of Sheriff Hagwood, I was appointed Special Investigator for the Plumas County Sheriff's Office. I was directed to investigate the Keddie homicides.
Upon review of the reports available, I found that there are many of the reports and leads in this case that were left undone and needed to be followed up. The following are areas of the investigation that needed to be addressed first.
There were two main persons of interest: Martin Smartt and Severin J "Bo" Boubede. It was noted by DOJ investigators Bradley and Crim that there were so many inconsistencies, questions, and lies that needed to be asked [about' and dealt with, and the investigators believed that both subjects needed to be questioned again.
On 4/14/81, both Smartt and Boubede were interviewed in Keddie shortly after the homicides. Boubede left the area almost immediately after for Oregon. Smartt remained for a short time, leaving the area to meet Boubede in Klamath Falls for a supposed business venture.
Prior to Smartt leaving, he submitted to a polygraph examination. DOJ Polygraph Examiner Sam Lister noted that Smartt reacted to the question, "Do you know who the suspect was?" Due to this, Lister suggested that Smartt be interviewed again."
"Former Sheriff Doug Thomas advised that after the homicide, Smartt would occasionally call with bits of information which Thomas admittedly said he felt was meant to lead away from Smartt as a possible suspect."
The report then goes into the confession, Cheezman's call to DT, and DT burying it.
5/19/81 DOJ Investigators Bradley and Crim contacted [the therapist]. Their report was inconclusive. The report did not have any information that Smartt committed the Keddie homicides, only related to hearsay information from Smartt's wife, Marilyn. A supplemental report from sheriff Thomas noted that he was advised that the report was unfounded.
Hancock, Glover, and Sheila Sharp interviewed [the counselor] in which he related in detail that Martin Smartt had confessed to the homicides. This interview was in far more detail than the DOJ investigators' in May of 1981.
It then relates how Bill Elliott then went to Reno and conducted an official interview, in which the same info was related (it was a pretty good interview, particularly coming from Bill). "The counselor advised that he had related the same information to the DOJ in May of 1981, and believed that the case was adjudicated." Mike then tried to get answers from Bradley, but could never reach him (he was a coy little prick when Deb and I called him, the fucking asshole).
Mike then contacted Glover, who had valuable intel corroborating the counselor's account. She brought up the Leidecker interview, in which he spoke of hypnotizing Justin, where he took on the persona of Marty:
"Justin related that the night of the homicides, he woke up and walked into the hallway and observed the carnage in detail and was stopped by his stepfather. Justin said that Smartt threatened him and told him to go back into the bedroom or he would kill his mother and brother."
Glover then handed over the Confession Love Letter, which Josh had stolen.
"Due to the totality of the above information, it is my opinion that Martin Smartt and John Boubede should be considered more than just persons of interest."
130808 MG contacts Loon. She claims on Sunday, Marty threatened her, forcing her to lie, and to claim Bo was her uncle. Also, just prior to the murders, Marty had threatened to kill her while brandishing a handgun. Marty was very controlling, she feared him. Explosive temper, always throwing knives and axes. "Martin was capable of just about anything." Loon spoke on Justin writing a book with Ed Cates. She then told of the hypnotism and Marty threatening Justin. "Justin and Cates had a falling out and the book never materialized." Cates had been financing the book and hypno-sessions, so Justin could not continue once they parted ways. Loon said Dee should be questioned, as he's holding onto info as he and Marde were so close. "Musgrove said Lake took Martin and Bo to Reno on Sunday, allegedly for car parts", but she thinks they really took Tina's body to dump it at Camp 18. Then she poured forth with the lies about him pacing a hole in the carpet. She and Marty then separated, with Marty moving in with Tony the Greek, who also should have info on the murders as he and Marty were so close. Going off on DNA, she supplied names and locations for a couple of Marty's kids.
130812 Ever so helpful, Loon called up Mike to say on the 25th Anniv of the murders, she attended the Keddie gathering. Mike Davis happened to be in Keddie, and threatened Loon: "I won't talk to you! If you ask any questions, you'll get dead!" This, of course, is bullshit- but she is tying other key conspirators up with a pretty bow while distancing herself from them.
130909 Glenna Meeks: She, Loon, and Sue were extremely close friends (news to us, eh? She and Loon could never keep that lie straight). "Mrs. Meeks described the relationship as family." She then told the old study story: At 26 when Tina walked through, Marty and Bo there. Marty to Tina: "What that girl needs is a good man" and grabbed his crotch. Bo laughed and laughed (of course, this is more BS, and she's told the story as many different ways as times). She also related the "If she was old enough to bleed, she's old enough to cut" line Marde also supposedly said, but this is her fucked-up, inbred brain's version of the old joke, "if she's old enough to bleed, she's old enough to breed." Dumb fuck couldn't even get her child-rape jokes right. She said she didn't like Marde and thinks he was involved in the murders.
On Sat night (this is a beauty): On the night of the homicides Sue and the kids were at her house playing cards and board games. Mrs. Meeks added that Sue and the kids left her house at 6 PM for Keddie. Mrs. Meeks said that this was in conflict with reports on the internet and submitted police reports."
So, according to this bitch whore berk, the truth is lies and only she speaks the truth? This is the bullshit story she told in April 81, the Tunabi tale even Sheila parroted before abandoning it for her own made up lies. Nina also said Dee Lake is involved. Early the following day (April 12), Lake drove Marde and Bo to Reno for 'car parts'. "Reflecting on the situation, she believes they were disposing of Tina's body." She then gave Mike Wade's Gardnerville number, but Wade could provide no helpful memories.
130918 James & Zonita: Shown a photo, they said it was 26, where Marty and the Smartts lived. The red station wagon in the photo was theirs. Neither recalled seeing Dee's car there leading up to the murders. James never liked Marty, who was strange.
James recalled remodeling 28, and then renting it to Doug Thomas. He then laughed, saying Doug was having an affair with Jan Albin, and all of Keddie knew about it. When Doug moved out, the Sharps moved in. He also said most of the residents were uneasy over Doug's handling of the murder case.
130919 (miss-typed as Sept 9) re-int w/ Loon: RE Tina's "abduction and subsequent murder", she told the story of DT interviewing Justin when they had to stop DT from talking to relate that Tina was missing, not dead inside 28 (this is the same whore who said Justin saw nothing). DT later hypno-raped Justin & J coughed up the 'out the back door, down by the river' story. She claims "after numerous hypnotism sessions, his information stayed substantially the same" Ha and fucking Ha HA! Again, she pointed to Dee Lake, "Marty's closest friend" as having inside info on the murders. Again with the Reno Car Parts story, she can't tell that one enough.
Page 11 starts with BS from Cheryl Hillary, the local psychic. It's BS, so I won't waste your time unless something of interest comes up. OK, this is the Forcino report I skipped over yesterday. She was shown photos of the CS, which I don't think DF was aware of, as he took her to 28 after it was "cleaned up" (?!) and he remarked that where she said bodies were placed was accurate to the CS. She then said she'd never been there before and didn't know any of the Vx. In checking DF's file, he took her to 28 on 5-19, after the walls were stripped and carpet removed. Other than the positions of the bodies, everything else she said is flat wrong: This is where the BS began about Johnny going to the Bay area, cuz she said Johnny was the main target because of a bad drug deal he'd done in the bay area. OMG what an obscene pile of shit! All the names she comes up with are wrong ('Tommy', 'Pitts', etc.) She'd heard about the MV drug party, because she puts J/D there not once but TWICE on Sat. Fucking stupid cow! Sue died first, according to this genius, and she was probably already dead when J/D walked in on the killers, who were questioning Sue (quite a feat since she was dead). All of this was over a white powdery drug and a piece of yellow paper Dana had. WOWEE, let's go home! Case solved! Game over!
For some reason, Mike said her version points to Dee as a possible accomplice (she mentioned a 6' 200 lb man with short curly red hair--- Dee had red hair. That's the only similarity I see) Ah, here we go: "The fact Lake's car being parked in Keddie near the homicide scene leads me to believe that it was available to possibly transport Tina or her remains out of Keddie." He then mentioned what a failure that Keddie was never locked down, nor vehicles coming and going searched. He then mentions the one and only contact made with Dee during the investigation, another clear failure. "My suspicions were supported by Lake's close relationship with Smartt, coupled with a number of witnesses interviewed in this case questioned Lake's support of Smartt and all believed he was somehow involved."
He then watched Part 2, noting Dee was "extremely emotional" and even breaking down and crying when talking Marde. He then relates the 50 pieces story, "hop on the bus Gus". Mike noted how Dee totally failed when asked how he learned of the murders, he "was almost unable to answer the question", coming up with wild, vague, contradictory BS about hitching, etc. A ramble. He also noted that, after Dee's interminable ramblings on his hitch-hiking prowess, his friendship with Marty, and his solid gold relationship with the VA, he somehow determined that he first heard of the murders when Stoy and Forcino deployed to his house ten full days after the murders. Mike clearly calls 'bullshit'. He also noted (as in his later int w/ Dee) LE asked him nothing about vets or knots despite his numerous claims the only reason LE came to him was due to his military expertise and knowledge of the local Vet scene. Mike calls 'bullshit' again.
Mike then begins trying to contact Dee, only to learn he's skipped town for Brookings, OR. Finding his new ph #, Dee became very nervous during the call. Contradicting what he eventually said in the interview "I don't talk about things on the phone", Dee wanted to do the interview quickly over the phone. Nope, sorry. Mike wanted to do it face to face, which made Dee even more uncomfortable. Dee said he won't be back in Q til T-Day, but they could meet at Lovelock where he does the prison ministry (both lies: Mike didn't do the interview until he saw Dee crossing Main in EQ on 12-16, and his visits to the prison weren't until 9-14, a year LATER). Mike then begins looking into what happened to Dee's green weenie. DMV is a dead end, since the car disappeared off the face of the earth right after the murders (Dee often claiming he never had it, as in his Gam interview- DeCrona told us and told Josh's producer Dee's car was impounded and destroyed due to the evidence in it).
"I reviewed the aerial photographs taken the day after the homicide. The photos were dated 04114181 and it is believed that the date stamp is the date the film was processed. [By Dmac] I was advised that the photos were taken on 04/12/81 the day after the homicide.[by Dmac]. I noted two different cars parked near the Smart cabin, one light colored vehicle and one red colored vehicle. The photos were too far off to determine the make and model of either car.
Later I reviewed additional aerial photos that showed a green station wagon in front of cabin #26 the Smartt res. additional aerial photo of that same station wagon leaving Keddie. It is believed that this was the vehicle that Lake, Smartt and Boubede were in allegedly going to Reno "for car parts"."
On 10-3, he contacts Heather Nelson, DOJ SA who is assisting him in locating era reports and work by DOJ on the case. They met at the DOJ lab in Chico, where he received a pile of documents and reports:
while reviewing the reports I found several written documents generated by Martin Smartt two of which were letters and envelopes and a post card sent to _______ his counselor at the Reno Vet Center. I was advised by SA Wallace that there was a strong possibility that Smartt's DNA could be extracted from those documents. l was advised to send them to DOJ Criminalist Kirstin Wallace for analysis on my return to my office.
October 7h 2013 I listed the attached written documents as evidence as follows:
(1.)#13-01 '1- envelope/letter to Marilyn Smartt from (S) Martin Smartt.
(2.)#13-021- envelope addressed to Marilyn Smart from Martin Smartt.
(3.)#13-03 1- post card addressed to ______________ from (S) Martin Smartt.
(4.)#13-04'1-2 X 3 card note to Marilyn Smartt from (S) Martin Smartt."
"August 8th 2013 through internet review of the Cabin #28 forum dedicated to the Keddie Homicide, I contacted Deborah, great niece of "BO' Boubede. I learned that she had an interest in the case and she provided me with information and the location of Boubede's sole surviving child. I contacted Ms. Boubede. Upon contact I explained the case and the need for a DNA sample for the process of elimination. Ms. Boubede said that she would provide a sample and agreed to help in anyway she could."
Unfortunately for the case, but probably fortunately for Ms Boubede, I'd long ago determined that Bo was likely not her father, as he was not around when she was conceived. The next few pages are dedicated to getting the DNA sample, and his struggles trying to get VA and military records on Bo and Marty. DA Hollister was, as usual, dragging his feet and balking instead of assisting.
Then comes a yellow slip of paper with a note on the back. I don't recognize the hand, but the writing is reminiscent of a person struggling with MS. It simply says: "Kinderlyn. Cousin of Meeks"
Then comes his probable cause statements against Bo and Marty, required by the DA before he'll budge on helping obtain their records. It recaps the murders, then goes over what we already know:
"This case has gone unsolved for some 32 years. The two main suspects are now deceased. We have developed information related to the suspects in this case and other possible persons of interest. Additional information is as follows:
05/11/81 Sheriff Thomas was contacted by then Plumas/Lassen Mental Health Director Doctor Cheezeman. Cheezeman stated that a colleague and friend from the Reno Vet Center, counselor ____________ related that Martin Smartt, a patient had confessed to committing the Keddie homicide. The information was passed on to DOJ Investigators Bradley and Crim.
05/19/81 DOJ investigators Bradley and Crim contacted ____________ at his office at the Reno Vet Center in Reno Nevada. Bradley and Crim's report was inconclusive. The report did not have any information that Martin Smartt committed the Keddie homicide, only related to hearsay information, from Smartt's wife.
ln early 2010 this same information that Smartt had confessed to the Keddie homicide was brought to light once again, by witness Josh Hancock and Amanda Glover producers of "Cabin 28" the movie, a documentary of the Keddie homicide. Additionally present during the interview was Sheila Sharp the surviving daughter of (V) Sue Sharp. They interviewed ____________ who was the counselor for Martin Smartt at the Reno Vet Center. He related in detail that Martin Smartt had confessed to the Keddie homicide. This interview was video tape recorded and was later reported to the sheriffs office. The interview was in far more detail than was reported by DOJ investigators in May of 1981.
09/09/10 On receipt of this information from Hancock and Glover Plumas County Sheriff's Detective Bill Elliott contacted ________ in Reno for an official interview. The interview was video tape recorded, which related the same information as in the movie"
Based on Marty's confession, and the attempted cover-up report by Crimely, the DA approved and drew up the subpoenas for the killers' records. The Superior Court judge signed off.
131211 Mike drove north to meet up with Dee's ex, Remona:
"Remona said that she did not recall very much about the homicide relating what she knew was in conversation with other people in the community, as she and her husband Dee never really discussed the case. Remona said that she was married to Dee for 19 yrs. relating that it was 19 yrs. too long. She said the she and Dee separated in 1987 due to Dee's drug use, his womanizing, and mental problems caused by his service in Viet Nam. Remona finally divorced Dee in 1990. Remona said that Dee used drugs daily mostly marijuana she said that if it was at all possible, she considered Dee was addicted to marijuana because of the amount that he consumed. Dee became physically ill over the years and was seen at the VA for PTSD and physical ailments related to his military service which he received a disability retirement. Remona said that she learned Dee is now taking morphine due to the progression of his illness.
When asked, Remona said that Dee had a violent temper and described several incidents which displayed his violent tendencies. Remona said that she believed that Dee was involved in this case describing him as capable of anything, Remona added that Dee was a follower, and definitely not a leader. Remona believed that if he was involved, it was as an accomplice. Remona was adamant that Dee definitely knows something about the case. Dee was extremely secretive in his dealings outside the home and his relationship with Martin Smartt. Remona added that Martin and Dee were very close, due to Dee's involvement with the veteran (VA) community. Dee helped Martin get help from the VA for Martin's mental problems. Remona was asked about "BO" Boubede, Martin's friend. Remona said that she did not recall him even after being shown a photograph. Remona said that she and Dee had an old green colored station wagon that was always breaking down, they were always having to hitchhike everywhere. They called the car the "green weenie". Remona could not recall if Dee allowed Martin to use the car due to the passing years.
It should be noted that a green colored station wagon was observed at the Smartt residence and was observed leaving the Keddie area the morning after the homicide believed to be driven by Dee with Marty and Bo allegedly going to Reno 'for car parts"?
He then collected DNA from Dee's son.
"December 16th 2013 while headed to work l observed Dee Lake walking across East Main St. to the One Stop convenience store, located on the corner of Alta and East Main St. in Quincy. I contacted Dee and he agreed to come to the Sheriffs Office for an interview at 1300hrs this date.
December 16th 2013 1300 hrs. l contacted Dee Lake at the S/O as previously arraigned where I conducted a video tape recorded interview in this case. Lake was some what vague during his entire interview saying that he did not recall when asked many of the questions, sighting the 30 plus years in passing time. Lake denied ever lending his car to Martin Smartt, even though Ilt was reported to the investigating officers in 1981 that he in fact left his car with Martin during the time of the homicide. Lake described the car as a Ford ranch wagon green in color. Lake added that he sold the car to _____, an old friend. Lake said that he never owned a .22 caliber rifle that was reportedly left in his vehicle. Lake said that he did not recall going to Reno the day after the homicide with Smartt and Boubede. Lake denied any real knowledge of "BO" Boubede stating that he didn't know "BO" very well, saying only that he (BO) came home with Martin after Martin's stay at the VA psych facility in Reno. Lake said that "BO" kept to himself and described him as aloof. Lake said that he was in contact with Spencer Smartt, Martins brother in the past and had been contacted by Boubede's niece Deborah stating that she called him in the past few months asking about the case. Additionally Lake said that he had been contacted by former sheriffs officer Rod Decrona regarding the case in late 2005 while he (Lake) still lived in Quincy shortly after the first movie "Cabin 28" came out. Lake did not elaborate on his conversation, stating again that he could not recall the details of his contact with DeCrona. Lake described his relationship with Martin as close however, denied that Martin ever shared confidential information with him.
On Jan 7, Mike called the guy Dee claimed to have sold the green weenie to. He said absolutely no way he bought a car from Dee.
"January 9th 2014 I contacted Deborah re: her contact with Dee Lake as he had described. She stated that she spoke to Dee Lake on August 13, 2012 as she had an interest in the case as it involved her great uncle "Bo" Boubede. Dee denied ever picking up Martin Smart and her uncle from the VA Dee also denied ever knowing "Bo" Canabano said that Dee was somewhat suspicious as she called him from a blocked number and wanted her to identify herself. She did and told Dee that she would call from an unblocked number the next time.
It should be noted that after the interview with Lake, I reviewed many of the crime reports which involved Dee Lake. I noted a number of inconsistencies between the original crime reports and his interview with me. Additionally I noted a number of inconsistencies between his interview in the Cabin 28 documentary and his reports to Sheriff's Detectives in 1981. It is my opinion that Dee Lake was deceptive in his statements and will be re-interviewed at a later date after further investigation."
"05/22/14 Justin contacted me at the sheriff's office to speak about the Keddie homicide. Justin related substantially as follows:
Justin said that he didn't know what he could add to the case due to the lapse in time of some 33 years. Justin was extremely co-operative and tried to recall as much as possible. Justin was upset with the way the investigation was handled believing that the case was mishandled from the beginning blaming former Sheriff Doug Thomas for mess. Justin said that he had been questioned and hypnotized several times to no avail and after time passed he be became bitter at his treatment. Much of this time he refused to even talk about the case, until he met Ed Cates a published author who wanted to help Justin write a book, and the possibility of a movie. After a period of time the relationship between he and Cates became adversarial and their relationship was terminated. Justin said that prior to their separation he had several hypnosis appointments with Dr. Fred Leidecker in Pulga. Justin was surprised at his last session that Liedecker was able to channel Martin Smart 's persona through him bringing out much of what happened the night of the homicide. Justin said that he was supposed to have other sessions with the hypnotist however he and Cates had parted company and no further sessions were conducted as Cates was paying the bill. Justin said that he could not afford any further sessions. When asked, Justin said that he would submit to a completion of his hypnosis therapy to assist in any way he could to help solve this case.
Justin said that since that time he suffered from depression lost a marriage and now has remained and is working steady. Justin submitted to a DNA sample prior to the completion of our interview.
06/03/14 I sent Justin Eason's DNA sample to DOJ Chico for processing in this case.
07/25/14 Meghan Mannion Gray from the DOJ DNA lab called and left a message re: a possible match in the Keddie homicide. Megan said that she was leaving town and would return on 08/04/14."
Then follows several entries regarding the match of Justin's DNA to evidence in the CS. "Meghan asked about a bloody finger print partial on a section of wall board and of finger nail scrapings from the victims, for additional analysis. I advised her that I would research this on my end for further information." [Were these things located & tested!?]
Here's a Big Red Flag: This proves Marilyn was involved in the staging of Sue, particularly with the binding. Perhjaps she's the one who cut the cord from the lamp, as it's less likely she had the strength or know-how to tie the knots that hog-tied Sue. As for the "#81ASC blood sample from scene", assuming they know Sue's DNA from what was collected in kits, this likely means they found Tina's blood at the crime scene which, of course, backs up my conclusion that Tina died early and inside 28:
"08/18/14 l received the attached DNA report from Kirsten Wallace DOJ Senior Analysist. ln brief the reports states that DNA from evidence items 13-01/13- 02/13-03/13-04 (All letters and or writings generated by Martin Smart) All items of evidence showed secondary reference for Martin Smart. Additionally the report mentioned possible female STR profile markings on items of evidence #79a, #79a, #85 (brown electrical cords) and #81ASC blood sample from scene. Due to this information it is a possibility that a female could be involved, additional DNA swabs frcm females in this case (Marilyn Smart, Tina Sharp etc.) should be explored for possible identification. Referring to Tina Sharp researching forensics to see if anything was done to pull DNA from the victims remains was done. (further investigation)
141024 Mike was attempting to get help from a criminal psychologist in how best to approach Justin. This is part of the resulting letter sent to the FBI's BSU. Again, this is before Mike realized the extent of Loon's involvement in the planning and committing of the murders. This letter resulted in him connecting w/ Reno FBI Glenn Booth:
"Most recently, we have developed DNA evidence related to a possible witness/participant in this case. The subjects name is Justin Eason (aka Smart) At the time Eason was l2 yrs old and was inside the residence the night of the homicide, his stepfather Martin Smart is one of the main suspects. Through hypnosis and previous interviews it is believed and theorized that Eason walked into the homicide after which he witnessed or possibly assisted his stepfather after being threatened with the lives of his mother and brother. Evidence in the crime scene produced DNA from Eason on tape used to bind the victims in this case."
It appears Mike also sent a copy of Elliott's 2010 report on his interview with Marty's counselor, which states in part:
"Vance did say a sociopath could easily pass a polygraph [in his earliest files on Marty, it states Smartt is clearly a sociopath]. He was disappointed in the sheriff and how the investigation was handled. He felt contacting PCSO was not a good idea due to Smartt's stated relationship with the sheriff." That's why he called DOJ. "Vance gave the same information [to Crimely in 81] but we agreed it was probably more detailed as it was fresh in his mind.
"February 5th 2015 I met with Glenn Booth S/A for the FBI and turned over copies of the Keddie Homicide report.
March 18, 2015 I sent the Keddie crime scene photos to S/A Glenn Booth of the FBI in Reno Nevada 9/7/15 I contacted S/A Glenn Booth FBI Reno as he had offered to have the FBI photo lab print all of the negatives of the original crime scene and autopsy. I pulled all the negatives from the original case file processed them and transported them to Reno FBI office and turned them over to S/A Booth. (refer change of custody report). 12/07/15 I was contacted By S/A Booth who made arraignments to pick up the attached listed photos of the Keddie homicide. S/A Booth prepared a binder with all the negatives and prints of the photos for reference and provided three DVDs of all the photos."
"03/19/15 I contacted Ca. DOJ Latent prints supervisor Felita Chapman and submitted Steven Howard's CII # for latent print comparison in the Keddie Homicide. Ms. Chapman took the information and stated that they would begin print comparison and contact me upon completion. It should be noted that Lt Stoy had attempted to send this request to latent prints but never followed-up and the prints were never analyzed.
03/20/15 I received the attached Elder Abuse report case# 13-298035 from the Sacramento Police Dept. (refer attachments) After review of the report I found that the address listed in the report is current. (Sacramento) Howard and his wife Julia, live and attend to his elderly mother Margret. Further information found that he works for "Labor Ready" temp agency at 3000 Academy Way in Sacramento Ca.
03/22/15 while reviewing the Cabin 28 Website on the internet, I found the missing reports I had filed in the 1980's. They were used as an example in excerpts of the sites investigation. lt shows my report and a follow-up by then Lt. Don Stoy. To date this information was never followed up and Howard never contacted or interviewed. The report viewed on the internet site was typed dated in 1989. I questioned this date and the fact that it was typed. My original reports were never typed, they were always handwritten when submitted and the date is in question as this report was submitted after my return to work on June 21 1983. This is an example and evidence that Josh Hancock, the director of cabin 28 the movie, removed evidence and files from the Sheriff's Office."
"04/03/15 Glover advised me that Josh Hancock removed several reports and documents and evidence from the sheriffs dept. files, when they were unsupervised. Glover said that as far as she knew Hancock still had them in his possession. Hancock gave the above mentioned letter to Glover at the end of the film. Glover explained that she did not know quite what to do with the letter until I contacted her for help in this case. Glover stated that Josh had given a number of documents to an associate known only as DMAC who had taken over the Cabin 28 web site and forum. The reports and items of interest appeared on the web site are present at this time for viewing. Glover added that later Hancock and DMAC had falling out and DMAC has stated that Hancock had given him stolen files from the sheriffs dept. and had offered to give them back to the dept., condemning Hancock for his actions.
Due to this information I viewed the web site and forum and noted that there were a number of documents and reports on the web site that were not in the sheriffs office files, corroborating what Glover had told me."
The following page, this particular report flies forward to 6/2015. He's going over RMX' story of Acid Steve. He contacts RMX in Salem, the Marge Krois, who was this Steve's GF according to talk in reports (she had also been Dana's GF according to reports). Knowing what a dirtbag Steve Howard is, and that it's possible he's also Acid Steve, his info is included, including his LE / FBI file #s
05/20/15 While reviewing the old Keddie file, I found several latent prints loose in the file. These latent prints were taken from the phone booth in Keddie near the resort lodge by Lt. Stoy. These latent prints were never submitted to DOJ for comparison. I contacted DOJ supervisor Felita Chapman about the new find and sent them to her for analysis (refer photo and evidence report #87 thru #91)."
This next bit is quite odd. While researching and fleshing out the Wall Timeline (the huge printout spread across the walls of the Keddie Room) and, later, while completing Timeline Z, I came across a file that dismissed the following story as unrelated to the crimes, and at a much later date than stated. Seeing as this report is from 84, it could still be quite true that what occurred was months later. So, take this with a grain of salt. Also, I've still never run across the report Mike is explaining:
"06/08/15 While reviewing the old Keddie files l found the attached 06/22/84 report by then Det. Sgt Steven Wright re: Gary Lee Silberstein and his report of a possible person of interest in the Keddie Homicide. Gary Silberstein was employed by The Sacramento Bee Newspaper as a driver delivering newspapers to the outlying mountain areas the night of the homicide. ln summary Det. Wright reported as follows:
Silberstein told Det Wright that in 1981 while delivering newspapers at the old Keddle gas station across from the Keddie turn off, in the early morning hours of 02:00-3:00 hrs. 04/12/81. After making his delivery he returned to the Greenville tum off on hwy-70 facing west toward Oroville. While reviewing his travel log he heard a commotion and observed a man running rapidly towards his van flailing his arms. lt appeared that the man came off the hill behind the bus stop located in the turn out of his location. Silberstein said that it looked like the man had possibly killed a deer and described the man as deranged. He observed the man to have blood all over him. The man was screaming something and flailing his arms about. Silberstein described the incident as something out of a horror movie. Additionally Silberstein described the blood as sprayed or thrown on him. Silberstein described the man as a Caucasian male, approximately six feet tall, medium build, (170-180 lbs) brown hair conventional cut; (neither short nor long), wearing levis, and a plaid shirt. Silberstein could not recall shoes, or glasses. His age was approximated as "not a teenager over twenty years old but less than forty".
Silberstein said that to Sac Bee was having labor problems and he did not know if this was some kind of ruse or stunt by the union. Concerned Silberstein drove off. Silberstein said that he didn't call until he got back home to Sacramento; he added that he delivers on Saturday nights so it could have been the evening of the Keddie Homicide. (refer attachments)
Wright reported that he attempted to check with Sac PD and Sac S/O for further info with negative results. There was no further follow-up done."
Mike then tried to track down Silberstein, and turned up a nephew, who said he had advanced MS and was non-verbal. With the info at hand, he's back on the Acid Steve track, with RMX and "Steve's" GF Marge Krois.
"With the above information, the physical description of "Steve" from Mrs. Alvey, Gary Silberstein and Richard N,,leeks, the booking / DMV pholos and informalion, coupled with the stark resemblance to the suspect composite drawings and time element of 1 1:00 pm and 02:00 am that "Steve" related to (w) Meeks. lt is my belief the possibility that Steve Howard is the subject in question as his physical description was the same the subject refer to in this report. Howard should be considered a person of interest in this investigation."
Chuck Walke, in other reports, claimed that Acid Steve is Steve Lucas. But Chuck Walke is also near the top of the list of Biggest Liars Not Involved in the Murders. Still, Steve Lucas makes sense, because he lived at the Dorm in Keddie, and could be an associate of Walke's because Chuck was constantly at the Dorm. (Steve's also the guy who said he thought Tina had come up to him 2-3 months before the murders saying someone was after her sister).
"06/17/15 I contacted Felita Chapman DOJ latent print Supervisor re: the case. Ms. Chapman reported that a latent print from the mentioned phone booth was identified as belonging to _________." This isn't a perfect match, it just says the guy who was a hit could not be excluded. His arrest records were 2-3 midemeanors in Sac, then he disappeared from records in 94.
"08/06/15 Richard Meeks came into the S/O as arranged to discuss the Keddie Homicide. Richard was questioned re: the identification of the subject only known as "Steve" that he had reported to Stoy and Forcino in June of 1981. I showed Richard several photos of Steve Howard, past and present however Richard was unable positively identify the subject. Richard advised that Howard looked familiar, but was not positive, due the span of time.
Richard advised that he was married to Shiela Sharp Meeks for about 7yrs. but have since divorced. While they were still together they were contacted by Martin Smarts daughter and son. Christina told them that prior to her father's death he had confessed to the Keddie homicide. They made arrangements to meet with Christina and her brother in Beaverton Oregon to exchange the information. Just prior to the meeting Christina called and said that they could not talk to them anymore as somehow their uncle Spencer Smartt had found out about their meeting and threatened both of them to keep their mouth shut.
Richard said that he and Sheila are still friends and could possibly provide more information. Richard provided Sheila's cell number for further contact."
"08/06/15 at 17:30hrs. I was contacted by Sheila and briefly discussed the case Sheila related substantially as follows:
Sheila was extremely emotional during our conversation, but was pleased that the Sheriff had assigned someone to continue to investigate the case. Sheila said that she would attempt to locate Christina's information for future contact she added that Christina had a married name and she had lost contact. Sheila confirmed the information that Richard had related to me but was vague as to details due to the passing years and as she had given up hope that something would be done. Sheila added that she would pull together her records and get back to me at her earliest convenience. (Further follow-up)
08/06/15 I contacted the Keddie forum manager DMAC and requested any updated info on Spencer and Christina Smartt that he might have. 08/10/151 received the attached Comprehensive Reports on Christina Smarft and Spencer Smartt re: information received from my contacts with Richard Meeks and Sheila Sharp/Meeks.
08/11/15 I was contacted the Keddie Forum Manager 'DMAC" who confirmed my request and supplied the attached documents on both Spencer and Christina Smartt; the info was in detail on both subjects including current phone numbers and background details."
"It should be noted ln June of 2013 I reviewed reports available on the Keddie Homicide case. I found there were many reports were missing and leads in this case that were left undone and needed to be followed-up. These follow-ups pertained to possible witnesses and suspects in this case. I noted that one of the reports missing was one that I had initiated re: Steven Edward Howard, after I returned to the Sheriffs Department in June of 1983. Due to the 30 plus years since the homicides occurred the exact date of my report and the details are from memory that best could be recalled. The following is the sum and substance of that report:
ln the early 1980's, I was contacted by, (PCSO Reserve Deputy) Mike Grant who told me that while conducting a Search and Rescue bingo game he was contacted by a mutual friend Jackie Alvey. Jackie said that she needed to talk to me about the Keddle Homicide. It should be noted that Ms. Alvey did not trust certain officers of the Plumas County Sheriffs Office and refused to talk to anyone but me.
I contacted Mrs. Alvey (now deceased) at her residence on Pioneer Rd. as she requested. The following is the sum and substance of that conversation:
Mrs. Alvey said the she had been troubled for some time about an incident that occurred the night of the Keddie murders. At approximately l:00 am or 2:00 am. She answered a panicked knock at her front door. The person knocking was a friend of her son Danny's she knew him as Steve Howard. Mrs. Alvey described Steve as extremely upset and panicking, Mrs Alvey
described Howard's clothing as filthy and appeared to be wet his hair was matted and a mess, he was wearing wire rimed glasses. Steve demanded to talk her son. Steve said 'Where's Danny I need to get out of town right away! Where's Danny?" She told him that Danny was not at home. Steve became even more excited and begged to stay or to let him borrow her car again saying that he needed to get out of town right away. Mrs. Alvey refused to let him borrow her car due to the state he was in and refused to allow him to stay because he scared her. Mrs. Alvey told Steve that Danny was in town some where. With that Steve ran off into the dark. Mrs. Alvey felt that due to the circumstances and the murders that had occurred in Keddie she needed to report the incident. Mrs. Alvey said that she did not report the incident as she did not trust anyone at the Sheriff's Office.
Some time later in conversation Mrs. Alvey and l were talking and Steve Howard's name came up and the Keddie homicide. Mrs. Alvey told me her sister called her and told about a strange incident that had occurred involving Steve Howard. Mrs. Alvey's sister (whose name I cannot recall) allowed Steve Howard to stay with her in Sacramento, Mrs. Alvey said that her sister told her that the family and Howard were watching T.V. Americas Most Wanted when the Keddie homicide was aired. Alvey's sister observed Howard become nervous and uneasy acting almost scared. Howard got up went outside to a shed located on the on the back of her property and pulled out what appeared to be a duffle bag and toss it into his lruck. Howard left without a word, which was out of character for him. Mrs. Alvey's sister did not know what was in the bag, and didn't know that it was even in the shed (NFl) Mrs. Alvey believed she needed to report the incidents and decided to contact me and make lhe report.
On my return to duty as a Deputy Sheriff, I contacted Sgt Don Stoy and gave him this information. I had dispatch run vehicles registered to Steve Howard and found that he had an older Chevrolet pick-up truck matching one referred to in the body of the report. Sgt Stoy ordered me to write the information up, and submit the report to him. I did as I was instructed.
It should be noted that Steve Howard is the brother of Kathy Howard, the victim of an unsolved homicide in Yuba County case #73-06758. I reviewed the above case and found information detailing that the homicide could possibly have occurred in Plumas County according to former Detective Sgt Rives in a 1992 supplement from Lisa Bales, a former resident of Quincy- Additionally in the body of the report Yuba County investigators related that Howard and Monty Porter were questioned and were not totally forth coming and
refused to take a polygraph examination (NFl)
08/17/15 I contacted Margret Krois re: the night of the Keddie homicide. Margret was somewhat vague in her recollection of the night due to the passing time. When asked about "Steve" she could not recall the name or identity the subject, but did recall Chuck Walke as an old boyfriend. Margret did recall staying the night with Shelly Johnson, a friend.
"08/25/15 I contacted [Marty's counselor] via phone and spoke to him briefly about the case and his information. I advised him that I wanted to meet and talk with him about his contact with DOJ officers Crim and Bradley. I referenced their report which stated that his info was unfounded and that his info was hearsay from Martin Smartt's wife Marilyn. He was upset that they had inferred that he reported that he got his information from Smartt's wife Marilyn and that Martin had confessed to him via a phone call. He added that he was contacted by DOJ sometime later and thanked him for his assistance, reporting that Smartt was arrested somewhere near the Columbia River in Oregon. He questioned that if they reported that his information was hearsay why would they contact him about progress in the case. He said that he was shocked that nothing had been done, adding that he was under the impression that Smartt had plead out and the case was adjudicated."
09/03/15 10:00hrs. I contacted Chuck Walke by phone and arraigned to meet him at the Safeway shopping center located in Quincy to discuss the Keddie homicide. On contact we discussed the homicide his ex girlfriend Margret Krois and possible acquaintance known only as "Steve". Walke said that he did not know anyone named 'Steve" during the 1981 time frame. I showed several photos all of which were of Steven Howard at different stages of life dating from 1975,1988, and 2015. Walke could not identify the subjects in the photos as anyone that he recognized. Walke said that he has been battling cancer for the past several years and most recently was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Walke added that his long term memory is shot saying that he was lucky to remember what happened yesterday. Due to this information I concluded the interview. Walke said that if he could remember anything he would contact me immediately.(NFl)"
This BRAIN TUMOR BS is the same load he fed Deb and I. Chuck is a true piece of shit. Now he doesn't remember Steve Lucas, or just can't keep his decades of different lies straight?
150909, Mike recontacts Sheila and RMX. I'll be damned if they, as expected, came up with absolutely nothing new to help Gamberg.
OK, I'm at page 83 now, more than halfway through, and need a break. There's a buttload of info in the above, very damning for the killers and those who tried to cover for them.
"Back off, man. I'm a scientist."
