Can anyone believe it's been 20 years since Josh put the first Keddie forum online? The case had been unsolved for 22 years at that point. It's disheartening to realize almost as many years have passed since then and the Sharp & Wingate families still do not have answers.
How many more years are going to be spent trying to prove a theory? At what point does one stop explaining away everything that doesn't fit. How many more innocent people are going to be added to the most ridiculous murder conspiracy because they refuse to let go of a theory? How much needs to point elsewhere before other legitimate suspects stop being called "wastes of time"? Is a theory more important than the truth?
So, in 1984, a witness ID'd Chuck Walke as the individual camping near Camp Eighteen a few years prior…. And that's not a big deal!? Camp Eighteen is probably the biggest lead in this case and finally there is documentation within a LE report connecting a suspect to that area. On top of the other known connections between Chuck & Camp Eighteen. This case is desperately in need a fresh start. It's beyond time to let go of ego & a theory.
The above forum post was made back in 2004. It's from Josh's first forum, created when the documentary was being filmed. Could "Blackeyed" be referring to the same bar referenced in the report about Chuck? It's a shame more of this forum wasn't archived, it would be helpful to see what was being discussed before the case was widely known. It was mostly all locals posting, as people learned the documentary was being made through word of mouth. What were the rumors & theories locals believed pre-documentary, pre-Marty & Bo? We know drugs/drug ripoff was the prevailing theory and some of the earliest comments involved LSD, an acid party in Keddie, Chuck & Cary Walke.
In fact, one of the first threads made was titled "Charles Walke". How about that? The Walke thread was created by a forum member by the username "BrookeThomas". Unfortunately, that specific thread was not archived and the discussion had been lost to time : ( The screenshot can be viewed here: web.archive.org/web/20050429130850/http://www.keddiemurders.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?f=1
I know some former forum members commented years ago that they had saved material from this forum. It's a long shot, but if anyone out there happens to still have this material & are willing to share, please let us know.
And, do you guys remember Night Rider talking about that "BrookeThomas's" posts? He would say that person was very sure of themselves, claimed their information was factual and they were not posting opinion or speculation. It's interesting to now see what, or should I say who, their information was in regards to. Hmm, does anyone know how Chuck's interview came to be? I never really thought of it before. Curious to know if Josh & crew initiated contact or if Chuck inserted himself. Nothing he said was truthful and I'd say some statements were a deliberate attempt to get ahead of the truth.
So what else can we say about Chuck? There sure is an awful lot to explain away:
- His alibi could not be fully corroborated. Kathy G told LE he may have visited on Friday, not Saturday as claimed.
Were brought to PCSO's attention multiple times by multiple different witnesses.
Witnesses place Henry in Quincy on Saturday afternoon. He just so happened to be at the Exxon the same time Johnny & Dana were dropped off there.
Chuck, Cary & Henry were said to have had an acid party planned for Saturday night. Several of the others who showed deception in their LE interviews were planning on attending this party. Statements have inconsistencies regarding whereabouts between 10pm-2am. Everyone was talking about this party but no one wanted to admit to being there.
There were numerous discrepancies between Chuck's statement to LE and Henry's. Especially regarding the suspicious truck with suspicious men resembling the composite sketches at the gas station. This does sound like a poorly planned attempt to misdirect LE and the small details busted them. Chuck then tried to change the details he provided and denied what he previously told LE.
Had scabbed over cuts on his hands following the homicides.
Said to have bragged about being responsible and having said things such as "I can't believe I got away with it, but I did".
Familiarity with Camp Eighteen because of his job as a USFS tree planter and his stepfamily, the Strattons, used to own property bordering Camp Eighteen. Plus the info from the newly released LE report.
Would have driven right past Camp Eighteen on the way to the Bay Area. Was he home Sunday morning when Shaver & Brubaker checked the railroad tracks and Walke property. The answer to this is very important and unknown. Unfortunately, Brubaker & Shaver may have made a giant mistake here as neither included it in their 4/12/81 crime scene report.
Chuck was an IV drug user and meth addict even back in 81 according to sources. We've long speculated Dana's insulin kit was missing because one of those responsible was an IV drug user.
Spang's statement, the nice sedan with San Rafael plate bracket. Henry told 974 they went to Livermore Friday night to pick up a friend. They were also in San Ramon which is less than an hour from San Rafael. (The other connection to San Rafael is Kathy Beckley's family. What vehicle did she drive? CJ? The brown compact, Steve? Craig? Heading to Walkes? Looking for J&D? Dropping them off? Combination of all three?)
Spang had agreed to be interviewed for the documentary but backed out when Chuck scared him off. Why? It was ok for him to talk on camera because he thought he'd be able to fool everyone, but couldn't trust what someone else would say?(We've heard both Seabolt & Chuck for who scared him off . However, Josh described the person as a young man they'd previously interviewed- that's Chuck)
A familiarity with Tina. At least through the dorms where both Chuck & Tina would visit. Chuck knowing Tina was recently mentioned but not expanded on. Chuck & Henry both denied knowing the Sharps, which was not true. Each would only admit to knowing Dana.
Can't forget Henry's confession to 974. An emotional confession causing 974 to believe Henry telling the truth and needed to get it off his chest.
All the other fellow RR workers who called contacted PCSO regarding Henry. And his coworkers were calling him Keddie Machete.
While Chuck was off bragging & talking "Let's do it like Keddie", Henry was displaying obvious personality changes to those around him. Remorse, guilt, fear and nervousness when the homicides came up.
Henry objected to having his photo taken by PCSO and he wanted to speak with Chuck before agreeing to the polygraph.
That weird ass guy who approached Stoy's brother and said he had previously called in a tip to Stoy (turned out it had been about Henry). He then said he believed he could locate Tina, but needed pcso to cover his expenses. If that ain't suspicious AF. Too bad the anonymous 911 call was only considered important when it was believed it could be tied to M&B. It may have been someone with crucial information, but immediately labeling them a suspect probably didn't help.
Kathy G's dad told LE not to believe Chuck or Chuck was a liar (couldn't find this to quote the exact statement).
Tom S., Henry's cousin, told LE he would try to find out what is up with Henry. That he doesn't want Henry to get in more trouble if it turns out Walke was involved and Henry has been covering for him.
***Those cuts on Chuck's hands. Credit to Brendan, in a recent FB post re: Henry's "it started as a game" confession. Brendan commented that sounds like the knife(?) game (or cutting game?) and perhaps Sue was forced to play.
Those four strange evenly placed parallel cuts on the back of Sue's left hand. And where did Maggie say those scabbed over cuts Chuck had were?? - on the back of his right hand!? Are you Fn serious!!?!? (Was Chuck left handed??)
I don't know wtf this knife game is, but it seems like way too much of a coincidence for Chuck to have the same exact cuts to the back of the hand as Sue did. WTF?
Maggie L. noticed the cuts Chuck had on 4/25/81. Zonita informed PCSO of Maggie's observation on 4/28/81. They interviewed Maggie on 4/30/81. So, where TF is Chuck's interview regarding this?!
According to the PON, he was interviewed by Doug Thomas and of course someone removed it before posting DTs files. As well as the other interviews he conducted around that time, anything done between 4/24/81 - 5/2/81 has been left out. DTs entire last month of reports were also removed. This would include any involvement DT had in the 7/1/81+ investigation of Chuck & Henry investigation. DT believed the puncture wounds were made by a ring, I wonder if he had a specific ring in mind?
Whose fingerprints were found inside the cabin? Let's hear about some actual evidence from this case for once. None of the BS that the perpetrators wore gloves just because no prints belonging to MMB were identified. Whose prints were identified? That's where the investigation should have started when the investigation was reopened in 2013. Instead it began with by reading keddie28 instead of the case files and directly led to the mess we see today.

I'm very interested in this angle too! One thing we know is that there was a bloody print left by the door and that Don Stoy had a list of suspects fingerprints submitted to the DOJ for comparison somewhere between 1986-1991 while MacKenzie was Sheriff. Notice that Don Stoy wrote that he knew they (DOJ) had a list of information or prints on file but if they didn't for any of these (on the list) to let him know and he would try to find them. Chuck's name is on that list. Never see a response as to what they found out - but there was that 2001 newspaper article where DeCorona and Stoy mentioned that all they had was one bloody fingerprint (never acknowledged if they had a match but didn't sound like they did). So if Chuck was there, but the bloody print doesn't match his, maybe someone else was with Chuck? Someone whose name is not on the list. I remember Tom Horan saying the Strattons had land near Feather Falls and we know whoever took Tina to Camp 18 knew where they were going. Nobody just happened up on that spot with a body that they had hauled over 60 miles - unless they knew where they were going. Yes it's funny that "Chuck knowing Tina" was not expanded on by 28. I always thought Maggie Lewis, out of fear and concern, reported the "Chuck with cuts" story to LE - but we can thank Mrs. Seabolt for that one. Remember the letter dmac received years ago naming Cary W. and Lew P. as being responsible for the murders? Somebody is responsible for these murders - but kinda appears that the killer has flown under the radar.

"The knife game" as I know it, is where you lay your hand flat on a table with fingers spread out. You, or someone else, has to stab between each finger as fast as possible.

Here's an interesting read. Heads up, there's some pretty graphic images in the article.https://what-when-how.com/forensic-sciences/defense-wounds/ Defense Wounds from Knife Attacks Such injuries are seen when the victim attempts to ward off a knife either by seizing it or by raising forearms and hands in order to protect other body regions (head, neck, chest). Traditionally a distinction is made in the literature between active and passive defense wounds. According to this distinction active defense wounds occur when the victim grasps the knife with the hand with the injury then being located on the palmar side of the hand. The passive wound type is sustained when the victim raises their hands or arms to protect the attacked body region; in this case the injuries will primarily be located on the extensor side. There is only a small number of papers available with detailed statements as to the frequency and distribution of defense wounds. The frequency of such wounds indicated for victims killed by sharp force usually ranges between 30% and 50%. In victims primarily fit for reaction the probability of the presence of defense wounds increases with the number of hits placed on the body. If in spite of multiple stabs, no defense injuries are found, it has to be considered that the victim may have been unable to react or impaired in his ability to defend himself already before the use of sharp force: for example in knife attacks on a sleeping person, in unexpected assaults and in victims made unconscious before the attack. The absence of defense wounds is also observed when the victim was held or tied. The same also largely applies in those cases where severe traumatization of a different type (e.g. by blunt force) occurred before the use of sharp force. Moreover, it is to be expected that in cases of very high blood alcohol concentrations or under the influence of drugs the ability to defend oneself adequately against an assault is reduced. A study of large numbers of cases with regard to the localization of defense wounds found about the same number of injuries on the flexor and the extensor side, often combined in the same victim. It seems justified to express doubts as to the stereotyped distinction between active and passive defense wounds. First, the various possible ways stabbing with a knife must be taken into consideration. Different ways of moving the knife (in a downward or an upward direction) may produce defense wounds on either the extensor or flexor side for the same position of the arm. An injury on the extensor side of the limbs may also occur if the victim tries to seize the knife and the blade comes into contact with the back of the hand or the extensor side of the forearm. In an attempt to grasp the knife the fingers of the victim may close around the blade, which cuts across the flexures of the phalanges as the knife is withdrawn (Fig. 1). In this case several fingers may be injured by a single impact of the cutting edge sometimes even completely severing the flexor tendons. Another typical location is the web between the thumb and the index finger. Incised wounds of the hands are often ‘shelved’ so that one margin forms a flap of skin (Fig. 2). Hand injuries are frequently located at the transition from the flexor to the extensor side of the fingers. Such wounds are typically encountered if the victim tries to protect himself by holding his hand against the knife with spread fingers.

This is transcribed from Chucks deleted interview on the doc. I'd love to know the date he was "brought into the cabin" by police. Did that happen?! Why?! I can't imagine they just grabbed a random guy, who may have been into drugs at the time, who may have had a party that night, and wanted his professional assessment on the crime scene. Chuck W: The police were always coming to me asking for advice requests, and one time they let me into the house. And I couldn’t stand being in there, it was too horrific. The bodies were gone of course when I (..) blood splatter and everything, an, I went outside and I got sick. They said “what’s wrong” and I said I know for sure your looking for two people. Ones about 6’2 the other about 5’8, 5’9. We gave them the descriptions, like we said before. From that point on uh, they eh, . The police, uh…, you know I don’t want to get involved anymore, because people, police look at you really suspicious after things like that after things like that happen, especially after, The fact that we were already down there that morning. Ya know, about quarter to six in the morning

I was thinking about some of what Chuck said in his doc interview. I hadn't remembered all of it though. As I was reading your transcript, I almost started laughing. It's not funny at all. Nothing funny about it, but him saying they were always coming to him for advice!?! Get TF outta here! What a joke, I can't believe he even said that!! Then he starts telling LE they're looking for two suspects and their height!?! WTF is he psychic now. Dumb luck. He was not as smart as he believed, just a bunch of dumb luck. Remember Stoy's files mention how Chuck had told them he "liked to play detective"? Was he inserting himself from the beginning?
His BS claim of LE bringing him into the crime scene, since they were always coming to him for advice & whatnot 😆🤣 It was like he was using that as an opportunity to tell the viewer "see look, no way it could be me. I can't even stand the thought of blood, just seeing it made me run outside and puke. No way anyone should be suspicious of me". It seems that's exactly what he was doing - appearing in the documentary to get ahead of anything else that may be brought to their attention.
Except his story didn't match what he told LE at all. Unfortunately, the police files were not initially available to compare what he said in 81 to the BS story he told in the documentary. When they became available, he was able to fly under the radar because all the focus was on Marty & Bo. What's the saying? The truth will never change, it's harder to remember a lie? Fits perfectly right here Their reason for being in Keddie changed, as did the time. The suspicious truck became a van. He wanted everyone to believe they went to PCSO to report potentially pertinent information and this caused PCSO to start harassing them. Made him feel like he was being treated like a suspect when all he did was come forward with information to help the investigation. We know that's all a bunch of BS.

All great points Hope, I 100% had this same thought cross my mind: "It was like he was using that as an opportunity to tell the viewer "see look, no way it could be me. I can't even stand the thought of blood, just seeing it made me run outside and puke. No way anyone should be suspicious of me".

I forgot to include a pretty big one to the list. How many locals have stated the roads to Camp Eighteen would be closed/impassable during April. Every year. Not reopening until snow melt off, some time around Memorial Day. For some reason this has been constantly dismissed over the years, despite every single local saying the same thing.
One friend♡ told us the roads would not only be closed but also locked. The only way through would be to have a key, such as a forestry service worker. Chuck worked for the United States Forestry Service as a tree planter in 1981.

Obvious in the past as well, but also so dumb at the same time. Wouldn't expect someone so stupid to insert themself and say such dumb things if responsible. He might've somehow made it work for himself though

This has come up before and I've always wondered if former PCSO Undersheriff Moreina was referring to Chuck & Henry with the comment. They seemed the most likely candidates and even more so now.
Moreina's comment at the end of the documentary, part II. He said every new officer is introduced to the case and evidence in the hopes of fresh eyes finding something that has been overlooked. That the case has been presented to the District Attorney several times over the years
So, who did PCSO suspect? It wasn't Marty & Bo, they were both deceased when this comment was made, can't bring them to trial.
And what happened to the investigation into these suspects once Gamberg became Investigator? Did he ignore the work of those before him, in favor of following the work of an unqualified online conspiracy theorist?!? It sure seems that way. As said before, Dmac does no favors to Gamberg by only posting "summaries" of his investigation. According to that summarized report, Gamberg began his investigation by declaring Marty & Bo suspects, speaking with Princess who referred him to Dmac, and by printing out forum discussions to add to his investigation binders. Chuck was interviewed as a witness when Gamberg was looking into "acid Steve". Did he not read all the case material available at his fingertips??
I 100% those before Gamberg were interested in chuck & Henry. They just didn't have enough to prove it.

This old report. .. We've known there was a Cascade up near Feather Falls, but had never seen a single report mentioning Cascade. This Chuck report not only mentions "Cascade" multiple times but gives the impressio Tina's remains were found in Cascade. Makes this report even more interesting - Justin is allegedly mentioning "the cascades" and Tina's remains are found in Cascade, CA? Cascade Bar, a campground Chuck was familiar with according to the manager.
Did he overhear something? "Let's go to Cascade"... Is that why he allegedly kept saying to look for Tina by the river? If you heard Cascade would come to your mind? A river, not a town, would come to mine.
But WTF is this all about??
What do those reports say? Was there more names within the report and we assumed POI = Marty every time it was written? We don't know which officer wrote the report Josh posted, don't know if it was Brubaker. So, are these both allegedly Brubaker files? Or Brubaker and another officer? Brubaker did have a habit of writing half ass reports when another officer was involved in an interview.
Maybe I'm wrong and someone else can find this information - but it appears the Feather River Bulletin didn't include arrests in the edition that should have contained Wade, Marty or anyone else possibly arrested around 4/18/81.

Weird, I thought I remembered reading that report somewhere. Seems to me, I was left with the impression Wade reported the interaction to an officer, but it wasn't witnessed first hand by anyone else. I could be remembering wrong though. I don't know what to think about what Justin said there, I know I thought it strange he used the term Cascades, is that how everyone referred to it? I'd expect a kid to say something like, "the little falls". Huh, but I was also surprised by Justin's use of ship terminology as well

I'm with you snoho, Justin used a lot of terminology you wouldn't expect a kid to use. Makes you wonder where he got these things from. "Waffle stomper", a kid would just say boots. Hiking boots or combat boots maybe, but "waffle stomper"? I personally believe he heard officers using that term while discussing the crime scene that morning.
It's strange, Nina made those forum posts stating investigators found small bare foot prints and a military style boot print. The DOJ asked Marilyn if Bo owned or wore boots. But we have never seen even one report documenting boot prints. I can see them in the photos, on the cushion & near Johnny. The barefoot print can be seen. Did they photograph those prints next to a ruler? They did that for the knife.
Dana's one boot had blood on the sole and it was possibly he who left the boot prints. The cushion for sure because those were both made by the same foot (right or left? I forget). Dana's boots were "waffle stomper" style. IMO that's where Justin came up with waffle stomper boots. He overheard investigators reporting to one another that boot prints in blood, waffle stomper style boots, were in the cabin.
Stoy apparently wrote his Photographic Evidence Report several different times and variations. Would his first copy list those boot & foot prints? Removed if they confirmed they were the victims? What date is listed on the version we have? Do the photograph numbers all line up, or are some numbers skipped over in our version of the report?
AFAIK the original of the jailhouse exchange reports have never been released. At least I've only the transcribed versions Josh released. Looking at further, I'm thinking it was two different officers writing those reports. Brubaker wrote the second one when Wade was released. That one doesn't include "Marty's meltdown" so it matches the Brubaker report Dmac was summarizing. His summaries are of the same report, he summarized all of Brubaker's reports two seperate times.
A different officer was probably on duty during Wade's intake to witness & document the meltdown. Why we've never seen a report questioning both Marty & Wade immediately following this encounter, I dunno. I don't recall the first jailhouse report being summarized in any of K28's summarized officer files.
Anyways......

I was surprised to see how many times Cascade was mentioned in the report about Chuck. That Cascade & Camp Eighteen are referenced together by the locals. There's a Cascade Bar, a Cascade Saloon, Owen said "in the Camp 18 and Cascade area" and then the campground. If the campground was in Cascade, someone familiar with the campsite would probably say "let's go Cascade" and then take poor Tina two miles away to Camp Eighteen. Perhaps Justin heard Cascade mentioned and he knew Tina was being taken somewhere along the river. Just not how far away that river was or that Cascade was the name of the area.
Justin making the "look for Tina down by the river" comment came from Marilyn, it's not documented in any of the reports. Marilyn recalled Justin first saying this while being interviewed in the police cruiser which was right after Justin went to get her. Despite claims otherwise, Marilyn's recollection of events was pretty good. Was she remembering correctly that this was something Justin said at that time, or did the statement always stick out her mind and therefore she recalled it as one of the first things Justin said? You'd really it'd be documented in Shaver's report if Justin was saying it that morning. Instead all we have is a report stating he was sleeping.
Had Justin said "look for Tina down by the river" to anyone else that morning before Marilyn arrived? The Seabolts perhaps? No mention of this. You'd think it would have been one of the first things he said if he'd saw/heard things that night including "Cascade". Something he said immediately after Jamie got the boys out, looked in the girls bedroom and said "mom, Tina isn't in there". Instead we have Marilyn's memory which would place the statement around 10:15am so for two hours he had been aware Tina was missing and didn't tell Sheila, the Seabolts, Shaver or other LE officers. April 18th Wade tells LE Justin had said police didn't check the river enough and POI spends a lot of time at the cascades on the river.
I'm wondering Justin heard Cascade. During the night? Sometime that morning? Sometime while still in Keddie at 26? Sometime after when they went to the Meeks? There's several reports claiming Justin was saying things pointing at Marty - "Justin said he stepdad had the same kind of tape", "Justin said Marty spent a lot of the Cascades on the river", "Justin woke up and saw Marty & Bo, he told police and described them for the composites. He said Bo has Tina somewhere". Yet, Justin never once pointed the finger anywhere near Marty during his LE interviews. How do we know if Justin was really saying these things?
