Here is a compilation of DNA mentioned over the years. It's a collection of forum posts, newspaper quotes, etc.
I tried to go in chronological order - if a date was mentioned from a report or test I used that, if not then the date of the post was used. Working on an upcoming post regarding the DNA "matches" in recent years.
2003
According to this news report from 2003, DNA had recently been sent to the DOJ for testing
And here are 2 posts from Dmac in the comment section of that video. These comments are from 2019:

It looks, as of 2013, a lot of the evidence was again in circulation. Several suspects were compared to latents found, and the only ones IDd are one from a nobody on the phone booth, and Killer Sheila's on the bulb.

The DNA match was in recent years, and I have serious doubts about the statement "the DNA matches a living suspect." I believe that assessment, if it's even an accurate quote, predates Gamberg's involvement in the case, meaning that it almost had to come from Bill Elliott. Elliott's the genius that wanted a sample of Justin's DNA in hopes of finding a partial match indicating samples came from Marty. This means Bill thinks DNA is passed down from step-father to step-child. Gamberg has never said anything similar to that statement re: the DNA match.
I would think great DNA samples would come from the doors / doorknobs, the back post, blood on the sheets, the girls' wall, the weapons (particularly handles), the supposedly bloody glass/ashtray, any discarded items the killers may have wiped up with, the bloody knife and cardboard and tissue found in the dumpster, and THE CIGGY BUTTS the killers left behind. Notwithstanding LE looked sporadically for knife wound victims at some surrounding hospitals, with the weapons used and recovered (particularly the bloody Swiss army-type knife Justin mentioned one of the killers pulled from his pocket and used, that was recovered from the dumpster), there's plenty of reason to believe a killer cut his own hand on a knife. I believe the VAST majority of evidence (including dna-rich evidence) has been destroyed or damaged by LE.

"Gamberg also said that much of the physical evidence taken from Cabin 28 is still in storage. This includes the living room carpet, wallboard and other items marked with blood and other potential evidence. The problem there is that it’s become disorganized."
"And some of the evidence in storage is contaminated. Some of the evidence was placed in a freezer to preserve it. The freezer got turned off, Gamberg said."

"Moving forward, DNA might still be retrievable from evidence collected at Keddie Cabin 28 if it hasn’t been compromised and DNA testing facilities are notoriously backlogged. Gamberg said he was fortunate in that he was able to get his piece of DNA processed in a timely manner."
"A segment of tape containing identifiable DNA was found on the floor near the body of Glenna “Sue” Sharp, 36, in 1981, Plumas County Sheriff’s special investigator Mike Gamberg said recently.
The DNA matches that of a known living suspect, according to Gamberg. He’s had the DNA for several years, but it wasn’t until recently that he obtained needed samples and found the match."

For the longest time, the line/belief was no female DNA was found. Now we have info that both male and female DNA was found in the kill zone, not including Justin's DNA hit. We don't know which bit(s) of evidence produced results. And we don't even know if there's enough of the crime kits on Dana, Sue and John for comparative DNA. I have spoken about it a few times, such as here, but it was such a muffed job that, unless DNA is found that matches a suspect, Vx DNA offers little more than confirmation of where they traveled within the living room while being murdered in stages.

The hammer was in the pond for 35 years, so there would be no DNA but lots of rust.
I'm not saying there wasn't killer's blood or DNA at the scene- we have Justin's from the tape. I'm saying that PCSO/DOJ did an intentionally shit job of it. Intentional bungling isn't bungling, though, is it? However, these pigs were so stupid and lazy that they bungled the intentional bungling.
Remember how LE were calling around to some hospitals about patients displaying knife wounds (ie hand cuts)? Of course, they only covered about half of the nearby hospitals, including ignoring Marty's, Bo's, Wade's and Dee's fave place, Reno? They were fairly certain some of the blood was the killers. Remember how not one question was directed at Bo or Marty concerning the condition of their hands? Shit, those two could have shown up with stitches all over their bodies and PCSO/Crimely wouldn't have blinked.
So, why would LE be so certain of killers' blood they mentioned it in the papers? Busy work and good PR, cuz they knew no hospital was visited, or one of the hospitals they didn't ask was used...? Back to why they thought so strongly killer DNA was there, yet took no more samples.
Look at all the blood on doorknobs. Front door (outside AND inside knobs had blood), back door, boys' bedroom- the INSIDE knob. Hammer and knives used, so how did the killer(s) get so much blood on them that there was standing blood on these knobs and elsewhere (back stairs, bloody prints above the front door light switch...). Those door knobs were taken into evidence, yet they disappear after that, never again mentioned. They appear on crooked Don Stoy's evidence field report, dated 4-17, then disappear. Never mentioned in evidence transfers or blood / DNA test results. If there was go-to evidence with high probability of being killer DNA, those knobs were it. And the blood on the back stairs- no good for prints, as they were too smeared, but perfect for likelihood of being killers' blood. The only evidence taken of that blood is the lone photo, taken DAYS AFTER, when they finally fucking noticed the prints.
But this is the same team that made Dee's car disappear. Someone who worked with Josh on the documentaries told me Rod DeCrona flat out said PCSO impounded Dee Lake's car and turned it into a paperweight. That green Ford wagon was only 2-3 years old, so why would that happen? Too much evidence. Wary of the source, when Deb spoke with Rod I had her ask him. She had to ask twice, but he recalled it. Gam bugged Dee about the car, and Dee said he sold it to a friend. This friend said, "bullshit!". What we do know is that car disappeared shortly after 4-12-81.

Sept 21--
He's then in DOJ Chico, picking up DOJ case files and speaking with a specialist about two letters sent to Loon and a card sent to his counselor- and they're hopeful DNA will be extracted. He then speaks of contact he made with Princess through the forum, which eventually led to them getting DNA from her daughter (who, due to Bo being in prison at the relevant time, isn't his daughter).
He then begins contact with the VA Outreach Center in Reno, trying to get Bo's and Marty's records. He knew it was the Outreach Ctr, not the VA Hosp itself, because he'd been in contact with the counselor. They advised he'd need a court order, which he got after filing a Probable Cause statement with DA Hollister. This PC statement goes into further details about how Crim and Bradley flat out falsified their reports, but he won't put it in the true terms. Too early in his investigation to call a spade a shovel full of shit.
He then sees Dee Lake, who knows Mike wants an interview, walking at the One Stop by Sav-Mor (a couple blocks from the old MX HQ and just a block further from the home he abandoned and lost to creditors when he fled Quincy). A WTF moment. This is 12-16-13. He was vague throughout the ensuing interview, claiming he NEVER LOANED HIS CAR TO MARTY SMARTT!! He said is was a green Ford Ranch Wagon, and that he'd sold it to an old friend (the friend said he never bought a car from Dee, that he'd remember that, and that Dee is full of shit). This is the same car DeCrona twice said PCSO had impounded and destroyed shortly after the murders. He said he never owned a .22, the same one he showed Stoy and spoke about so frequently when recalling the murders! He said Spenceygoo had been in contact, and also described when Deb called him (I was listening in, ready to feed Qs over the computer). He said DeCrona had been in contact in 2005, but couldn't recall any details. He described his and Marty's relationship as really close, but that Marty never shared confidential info. So I guess Marty didn't think his murders was confidential- of course not, he confessed so damned many times! Mike then got a dna sample.
then contacts Richard Meeks, who says they parted on friendly terms after 7 years of marriage (during the entire time they participated in forums, they flat-out lied about their marriage. Given the print on the bulb, I can now see why.) He then related the story of Marty's kids contacting he and Sheila (it wasn't Rick, but RM), and Spence threatening them.
He then contacted Sheila, who feigned heavy emotion throughout. Of course, Sheila was vague and less helpful and, somehow over 7 years, had forgotten much of Marty's kids' contact. Yeah, fucking right, you lying tramp!
Then a DNA report stating Marty's DNA was found on the letters, and the secondary female hit was found not only on some of the brown electrical cords used to bind Sue, but a blood sample taken from the scene. It was recommended by DOJ senior DNA analyst to run Marilyn's DNA again. The report's not in perfect chron order, so this bounces back to late 2014 from 2015. Mike also began a search to see if DNA was ever attempted or extracted from her skeletal remains.

There was DNA send off in 2003 - it was in a post I read recently. Don't ask me which one, I just woke up. But from what I could tell DNA was sent in for testing, I can't find what if any results came of it, and Josh was asking those lab technicians to do a review and nothing came of that.
Perhaps Josh himself can clear the DNA testing activity thing up

Blond hair was found clasped between Johnny's hands and in a blood patch on his sleeve. More blond hair was found in a blood pool next to Sue's head, and in another pool near her feet.
One of the hairs you mention is described as "whitish"; the rest "tannish blond".
In 2004, they tried to get a DNA sample from some of the hairs, but not enough of the root was left to do so.

"...out of all of the items submitted the only DNA samples obtained match that of the three victims. In other words no DNA was identified other than from the three victims. [The technician] said that there was far more evidence initially collected at the crime scene that could still be sourced for suspect DNA. What is the status of all the physical evidence?
by jhancock » Mon Sep 14, 2009 5:28 pm
Hi Mom
I received an update from PCSO approximately one year ago that, yes, DNA evidence was sent to the DOJ and came back "no match."
A lot of the evidence was destroyed when there was water leakage in the evidence room. There is some controversy over this incident. It definitely happened, but some people in positions of authority think that it could have been intentional--which is a really frightening thought.\
The bloodied walls are still at the PCSO.
One part of the case that is so bizarre is that the walls of the cabin looked "stabbed"--there were knife marks everywhere. According to FBI agent Larry Ott, "As if someone had been throwing a knife and sticking it in the wall."
Why did the killers do this?

ABC10 Sacramento Special, part 2
"The cabin where this murder happened no longer stands, it was condemned and demolished. But all the evidence inside is stored at Plumas County Sheriff's Office."

There was no bra in the gag. What a mess. The ME was a mess! I've seen worse, but rarely. He couldn't say the sky is blue, he'd prefer to list every color it isn't. This is a major homicide case, and Tweedle Dee was tasked with being Tweedle Dumb.
This doesn't come from just the photos, but from the reports. First layer: BLUE BANDANA. Not red.
Second layer: Several strips of the med tape, with female DNA, indicating Marilyn applied the tape. However, if the DNA results came from Chico's lab, a female tech there contaminated Keddie evidence with her own DNA.
Third layer: Sue's UNDERPANTS, cut from her body and used for sexual degradation and humiliation. Again, questionable female DNA based on the same reasoning. Chico lab ruined unknown evidence from contamination.
Sue was a slut and porked any equally stupid dick within reach. The house was a disaster, Sue was the perfect NON-mommy. Sheila is clearly a murderer JUST for the lies she told about Sue, John, Dana, Tina. Sue brought murder into her house because she lived very stupidly and dangerously. That in no way makes it her fault. Except she may as well have been begging for it.

So female DNA equals Marilyn's DNA? Did the DNA match to her or was it only determined to be from a female? We know Marilyn gave a DNA sample, so was this sample from the gag matched to her DNA? Female does not equal Marilyn.
